5 ways to treat Dad this Father's Day

Father’s Day has been around long since 1910 and celebrating all kinds of fatherly bonds, it’s certainly fast approaching this year. Let’s face it, dads are great. So this year forget the usual socks and chocolates because what your dad really wants is to spend some quality time with you. And if we’re being totally honest, maybe a nice bottle of gin as well.

So, gather the snacks and fasten your seatbelts because we’re going on a big Father’s Day trip out around Bradford, with these 5 great ways to spoil your old man this Sunday, the 17th of June.

Breakfast of Kings

The most important meal of the day, you can’t take your dad on a big trip out without feeding him up first. Enjoying rave reviews on TripAdvisor is The Cellar Trust Cafe in Shipley. An independent charity cafe that supports mental health, the cafe offers an all day breakfast menu to include the four fundamentals, eggs, beans, sausages and bacon. Every good Father’s Day surely begins with a slap-up breakfast and this is all for a great cause too.

Fishing Trip

Reckon you could both handle a bit of angling? Saltaire is home to some excellent fishing spots including the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. A huge stress reliever, if the sun is out, you may even be lucky enough to catch a Chub, Grayling or Barbel when you take your dad fishing in Saltaire.

Afternoon Ramble

If your dad is the walking sort, there are plenty of stunning walks to appreciate around the City of Bradford’s district. Why not invite his walking friends along and head on over to Ilkley Moor before taking in the remarkable sites of the Cow and Calf rocks. Take a picnic along too, you never know when you may need a quick refreshment of Saltaire Blonde.

Flashback Fun

After all this action, it’s time for a bit of snap. Find yourself the best Sunday roast going (usually at mums) and dig out the old photos for a trip down memory lane this Father’s Day. Some tracks to remember the good old days wouldn’t go amiss either. If your dad was a big fan of the sixties Northern Soul scene, why not bring him along to our next music revival night, held in Bradford’s underground Victorian tunnels. Our last one, The Plebeians Jazz Club of Halifax went down a storm and we have also celebrated the original Little Fat Black Pussy Cat Club too.

Father’s Day Drinks at Sunbridgewells

Well that’s it, Father’s Day done well for another year. If your dad likes a beer or two, why not end your thrilling day out in Bradford’s underground tunnels, Sunbridgewells. The Rose and Crown and Wallers Brewery both have a fantastic drinks selection. From a refreshing lager or cider to a soothing pint of ale, both bars also offer a warm and pleasant atmosphere to finish the day off just nicely. And if mum comes along too, you can treat her to a nice world gin at our Sunbridgewells Gin Bar.

Round off this Father’s Day in Bradford’s underground Victorian tunnels because there is nothing quite like spending some quality time with your pa. After all, home is where dad is.
